I Am... The Life Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. (Jn. 14:6) We have discussed the fact that Jesus is the Way and the Truth; the self-portrait we want to notice in this lesson comes from the same verse these previous two came from. Jesus says, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. All three, while different in some respects, are all connected. The way Jesus provides is the way of truth; thus it is the right way. And because He provides a truthful way, Jesus offers the True Way to Life. No one else can make truthfully make this claim. Everyone on earth would have to say, I am a life. Jesus says, I am the Life. Jesus is the source of all life! Notice how John put it at the beginning of his gospel:
The apostle Paul writes in a similar fashion stating that all things were created by Jesus; as God (Col. 1:16). If Jesus is the Life, then it is He who we must turn to in order to find meaning and purpose to our existence. Scriptures: Jn. 1:3, 4; 10:10; 14:6
Questions: 1. Discuss some of these common questions regarding life: Who am I? Why am I here? What is life all about? 2. Where can one go to find answers to these searching questions? 3. In what ways is Jesus the life? 4. How does this description of Jesus connect with each of the titles we have previously discussed? The Bread of Life The Door The Good Shepherd The Resurrection and the Life The Way The Truth 5. What is the promise of Jesus in John 10:10 6. What is the abundant life He promises?
Thought for the week: Am I enjoying the abundant life Jesus promised? |
