“I Am...

The Life”

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (Jn. 14:6)

We have discussed the fact that Jesus is the Way and the Truth; the self-portrait we want to notice in this lesson comes from the same verse these previous two came from. Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” All three, while different in some respects, are all connected. The way Jesus provides is the way of truth; thus it is the right way. And because He provides a truthful way, Jesus offers the True Way to Life.

No one else can make truthfully make this claim. Everyone on earth would have to say, “I am a life.” Jesus says, “I am the Life.” Jesus is the source of all life! Notice how John put it at the beginning of his gospel:

3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

John 1:3,4 (Emphasis mine)

The apostle Paul writes in a similar fashion stating that all things were created by Jesus; as God (Col. 1:16). If Jesus is the Life, then it is He who we must turn to in order to find meaning and purpose to our existence.

Scriptures: Jn. 1:3, 4; 10:10; 14:6
